Adding your trade accreditations and industry certifications to your TruePro profile helps homeowners see your qualifications at a glance. Verified accreditation badges appear on your public profile and can improve customer confidence when you quote on a job. This article explains how to add accreditations and what to expect from the review process.
What counts as an accreditation?
An accreditation is a formal registration or certification from a recognised South African industry or regulatory body. Examples include:
- LPGASA — LP Gas Association of South Africa (gas installers)
- Wireman's licence — issued by the Department of Employment and Labour (electricians)
- SAPC registration — South African Plumbing Council (plumbers)
- ECSA registration — Engineering Council of South Africa
- Master Builders South Africa (MBSA) membership
- NHBRC — National Home Builders Registration Council (contractors)
General experience claims ("10 years in the trade") are not accreditations — these belong in your profile bio. Only formal, verifiable registrations are listed as accreditations.
How to add an accreditation
- Go to Edit profile.
- Scroll to the Accreditations section.
- Click Add accreditation.
- Select the accrediting body from the dropdown (or type the name if it is not listed).
- Enter your registration or membership number.
- Upload a scan or photo of your certificate or registration card (PDF, JPG, or PNG — max 10 MB).
- Click Save.
What happens after you submit?
The TruePro admin team manually reviews every accreditation submission. They check that the document matches the registration number and the body you selected. Review typically takes one to three business days.
Once verified, a badge appears on your public profile next to the relevant accreditation. If the document cannot be verified, TruePro will contact you by email with details of what is needed.
How accreditation badges appear to customers
Verified accreditations appear as labelled badges on your public profile page. Customers browsing the directory or reviewing your quote can see your accreditations alongside your trust score, reviews, and verification status. Accreditation badges are a strong trust signal — they demonstrate that you are not just licensed (basic verification) but actively registered with an industry body that holds you to a professional standard.
What if my accreditation expires or is renewed?
Update your document before the expiry date to keep the badge active. Go to Edit profile → Accreditations, click Update next to the relevant entry, and upload the renewed certificate. TruePro admin will re-verify the new document and restore the badge once confirmed.
