The 5-quote cap and how to win jobs
TruePro uses a competitive quoting model — the first five traders to submit a quote on a job win the slot. This guide explains how the cap works and how to use it to your advantage.
The 5-quote cap
Each job request on TruePro accepts a maximum of five quotes. Once five traders have submitted quotes, the job is closed to further quoting and remaining leads are marked as "Quoting closed". This ensures:
- Homeowners receive a manageable number of quotes to compare
- Pros who respond quickly are rewarded with a real opportunity
- Quotes reflect genuine competition, not a race to the bottom on price
How to know if you're still in time
When you view a lead, the job's current quote count is shown. If it reads "4 of 5 quotes submitted", you still have a slot. If it reads "5 of 5", quoting is closed and you will see a "Quoting for this job is now closed" message if you try to start a quote.
Speed matters
Leads are delivered to multiple pros who match the job's trade category and service area. Enable push notifications and make sure your TruePro email goes to your primary inbox — these are the fastest ways to know when a new lead arrives. Pros who respond to leads within 30 minutes win slots far more consistently than those who check at the end of the day.
Quote quality beats quote speed
Winning a slot does not mean winning the job. Homeowners compare all five quotes before deciding. A clear, well-structured quote with a detailed scope of work, honest exclusions, and a fair price is more likely to be accepted than a vague one submitted five minutes earlier.
What happens if you miss the cap
If the job already has 5 quotes when you try to start yours, you will be redirected back to the lead page with a notification. The job remains visible in your leads list for reference, but no further action is possible.
Exception: a customer requested you specifically
If a customer clicked "Get a quote" on your profile or invited you from their Saved pros page, you are marked as the preferred pro on that job. Preferred pros are exempt from the 5-quote cap — you can always submit a quote, even if 5 (or more) other pros have already quoted. Look for the "Requested via your profile" label on the lead.
