Uploading a compliance certificate
If your trade requires you to issue a Certificate of Compliance (CoC), TruePro lets you upload it directly to the job before the customer confirms completion. This article covers when to upload, what file formats are accepted, and what happens after you upload.
Who needs to upload a CoC?
You must upload a CoC whenever your trade is legally required to issue one. This applies to:
- Registered electricians — Electrical Certificates of Compliance (ECOC) for all electrical installation or alteration work.
- Registered plumbers — Plumbing CoCs or Water Installation Certificates for new or altered water and drainage installations.
- Registered LP Gas installers — Gas Certificates of Compliance for all gas installation work.
If your trade does not issue statutory certificates (e.g. painting, tiling, general building), this section does not apply to you. Other job documents such as completion photos and invoices are still required as normal.
When should I upload the certificate?
Upload the CoC as soon as it has been issued — ideally on the same day the work is completed and before you mark the job as complete on TruePro. The customer cannot receive their full documentation until the certificate is attached to the job, and they should not confirm completion (which releases payment) until they have it.
Do not wait until after the customer confirms. Once payment is released, your leverage to resolve any queries about the certificate is reduced.
Where do I upload the certificate?
- Open the job from your Jobs dashboard.
- Scroll to the Documents section on the job detail page.
- Click Upload compliance certificate.
- Select the certificate file from your device and confirm the upload.
The customer will be notified automatically once the upload is complete. The certificate will appear in their job detail page and they can download it at any time.
What file formats are accepted?
TruePro accepts the following formats for compliance certificates:
- PDF (recommended — preserves formatting and is universally accepted by attorneys and municipalities)
- JPG or PNG (acceptable for scanned certificates, but PDF is strongly preferred)
Maximum file size is 10 MB. If your certificate is larger than this, use a free PDF compression tool before uploading.
What happens after I upload?
Once uploaded, the certificate is:
- Attached permanently to the job record — both you and the customer can download it at any time, even after the job is closed.
- Visible to TruePro admin if an issue is reported — a missing or invalid certificate will be taken into account during adjudication.
- Counted toward your verified compliance record — consistently providing certificates on time contributes positively to your trust score.
What if I issued the wrong certificate or uploaded the wrong file?
Contact TruePro support through the Help page to replace an uploaded document. You cannot overwrite or delete a certificate yourself once it has been uploaded, as the document is part of the job's permanent audit trail.
