How to post a job request
Posting a job on TruePro takes about two minutes. You describe what you need, where you are, and when you need it — then verified tradespeople in your area send you quotes. You do not need to call anyone or share your number publicly.
Step-by-step guide
- Sign in or create a free account. You only need an email address and a South African cellphone number. Your number is verified by SMS to keep the platform secure.
- Select a trade category. Choose the type of work you need — for example, Plumbers, Electricians, or Tilers.
- Choose a subcategory. Narrow it down so pros who specialise in exactly that work see your job. For example, under Plumbers you might choose "Burst pipe" or "Geyser replacement".
- Describe the work. Write a clear description of the problem or job. The more detail you give, the more accurate the quotes you receive will be. Mention anything unusual — for example, "the geyser is in the ceiling" or "there is no access from outside".
- Set the urgency. Choose Emergency (within 24 hours), Urgent (within 1–3 days), This week (within 7 days), or Flexible. Emergency and urgent jobs are highlighted to pros and attract faster responses.
- Add your location. Enter your suburb or street address. This is used to match you with nearby tradespeople — your full address is only shared with the pro you accept.
- Review and submit. Check everything looks correct, then submit. Your job goes live immediately.
What happens next
Once your job is posted, verified tradespeople who cover your category and area can send you a quote. Up to five pros can quote on a single job — after that, the job is closed to new quotes. You will receive an email and SMS notification each time a new quote arrives.
Right after you submit (or, if you posted before creating an account, as its own "Verify your identity" step), you'll see an optional screen inviting you to verify your identity (ID number, ID document, and a couple of selfies) — it's genuinely optional and you can skip it, but it does help: a verified photo tells Pros who they're meeting before they agree to visit your address. If you skip it, we'll send you a one-off reminder about 90 minutes later. You can always do it any time from Account settings — see Identity verification.
Note: until your ID is verified (not just submitted — an admin needs to approve it), each of your job posts is limited to 3 quotes instead of 5, and you're limited to 4 job requests in total. Verifying unlocks the full 5-quote limit and lifts the request limit — including on requests you've already posted.
Posting the same job to multiple sites
If you manage more than one property — for example, a home and a rental, or several commercial sites — you can post the same job request to all of them at once without filling in the form multiple times.
- Save your property addresses under Addresses in the top navigation (or at My Profile → Saved Addresses).
- From the My Jobs page, click Post to multiple sites.
- Fill in the service type, description, and urgency once.
- Tick the addresses that need this work.
- Click Post to selected sites. Each address generates its own independent job request with separate quotes and payment.
You can track all the jobs from a bulk submission together on the confirmation page, and individually from your My Jobs list.
Tips for a good job post
- Include a photo if you can — it helps tradespeople give you a more accurate price.
- You can also attach a short video (MP4 or MOV, up to 90 seconds, up to 100 MB) — useful for showing something in action, like a noise, a leak, or a fault that's hard to capture in a photo.
- Be specific about the problem, not just the symptom. "Water leaking under the sink from the waste pipe joint" is more useful than "leaking pipe".
- If you already have parts or materials, mention it so pros can account for that in their quotes.
